About us

Arial photo of our co-op with the eight heritage houses facing Pacific St.

This friendly community is located on the edge of downtown Vancouver, close to Sunset Beach, the seawall, new bike paths over the Burrard Bridge, the Vancouver Aquatic Centre, False Creek Ferries, Y.M.C.A., shopping, elementary (we are in the catchment area for Lord Roberts Elementary & Annex) and secondary schools (catchment area for King George Secondary).

Eight heritage-designated homes have been completely rehabilitated and divided into two units each.  A courtyard area and seven-storey apartment building are situated behind the homes making up a total of 91 units.  Amenities include underground parking, bicycle storage, two common laundry facilities, common room with kitchen, hobby room, children’s play areas with a water feature, adult-only rooftop garden. Most units have a balcony, patio or porch, and at least one set of stairs. There are five one-bedroom units for members with physical disabilities. Pets are welcome, subject to Board approval.

We live in a walking and bus riding paradise, with a very high Walk Score of 95, a Transit Score of 91, and a Very Bikeable Score of 88. You certainly don’t need a car to live here: many members walk, ride bikes, or belong to the Car Co-op.

In 2016 we passed new Rules and Occupancy Agreement. Something new  (section 7.04 of the Occupancy Agreement, see Documents/Forms page) is that smoking is now prohibited in the co-op. All members (except existing members who have applied for an exemption) are expected to comply with the new non-smoking provision.

Please read our Mission, Vision and Values statements to get a sense of who we are and what we stand for.

Applying for Membership

If your household has between 2 and 4 people you can apply for a 2-bedroom unit. The waiting list for one and three bedroom units is closed.

If you are interested in becoming a member, please fill in an application form and mail it in. When you mail in your application, please include a self-addressed stamped POST CARD; we will stamp it with the date received and return it to you so you can know when we received your application. We do not keep applications longer than six months so we ask that once you have sent in your application, you please send a letter every six months to indicate your continued interest and to update your information. It can take two years or more before you are contacted for an interview, as there are usually very few moves.

When you are offered a unit, the share purchase to become a member is $1,250, with an additional $10 for associate members. There is a move-in paint levy of 33% of your housing charge, which is collected when you move in. There is also a $50 deposit if you require a clicker for the underground parkade. There are currently no subsidies available. In order to qualify, your housing charge must be no more than 32.5% of your gross household income.

Current housing charges for August 1, 2018 through July 31, 2019 are as follows:

Unit type (# of units) / Monthly Housing Charge / (Average unit size) / Minimum gross annual income

1 BR apartment (12) / $852/ (692 sq ft) / $31,458

Visitors

If you are visiting our co-op, here is some information to help you get here. We are located at 1035 Pacific Street, between Burrard & Thurlow on the North side. The best way to get here is on foot, by bike (visitor bike stands are near the front entrance), or by public transit. Here is a map of our location –>Google Map.

Public Transit

The #2 McDonald/Downtown, #32 Dunbar Express and #44 UBC Express buses stop nearby on Burrard Street. The C23 Main Street Station/Yaletown/Beach runs along Beach. We are about a 15-20 minute walk from either the Burrard Skytrain or Yaletown Canada Line stations.

Parking

If you must drive, here are some visitor parking options:

  • First, see the West End Parking Map for all available metred,  non-metered and permit on-street parking.
  • Easy Park is a City-owned, non-profit company that manages parking lots that are owned and leased by the City of Vancouver.  Here is a map of all their lots in Vancouver. Here are the three closest to us:
